The “2016 Taiwan Lantern Festival,” held at the square in front of Taoyuan High-Speed Rail Station, saw a large crowd flocking to preview the lantern displays on its trial operation day (Saturday, the 20th). Program rehearsals will be held on the 21st, and the festival officially opens on the 22nd. Organizers urge the public to take the train or high-speed rail to get to the venue.

Main Lantern of the Taiwan Lantern Festival“Qi Tian Creates Great Fortune”Inspired by Sun Wukong from Journey to the West, this main lantern features tens of thousands of lighting circuits to create the Monkey King’s ever-changing, cloud-soaring expressions. For the first time, large crystals are embedded in the lantern’s eyes to showcase Sun Wukong’s signature fiery golden eyes. “We hope that Sun Wukong, riding his somersault cloud, can lead Taiwan to embrace the swiftly changing era of globalization in the new year!”

The first-ever 10-meter-high structure built by stacking glass—the “Universe Tower”—is also not to be missed. With glass reflections and dynamic lighting effects, it presents the grandeur of the starry cosmos, offering a breathtaking visual experience as if you’re in the Milky Way.




Passengers at Taoyuan High-Speed Rail Station are asked to follow the following entry and exit routes:
Lantern viewers: During station control hours, please exit through Exits 6, 7, or 8, then walk to the Taoyuan Lantern Area to view the main lantern.
Passengers boarding trains: During station control hours, please enter via Entrances 2 or 3 and queue according to the “un-ticketed” and “ticketed” routes to purchase tickets or board trains.

From February 19 to March 6, Taiwan Railways will, from 6:00 a.m. until the last train, add stops at Yangmei Station for all scheduled trains and at Neili Station for all Chu-Kuang Express trains. Additionally, 73 extra shuttle train services will run between Hsinchu and Nangang. The Taoyuan City Government has set up transfer bus stops at Neili and Yangmei Stations. Passengers heading to the lantern festival can transfer to shuttle buses at these stations.
