Istanbul to Build New Mega Airport with World’s Largest Duty-Free Shop

With Turkish Airlines routes reopening, you may have noticed on Facebook that more and more people are checking in at tourist spots across Turkey. Another major piece of news is that Turkey is constructing what could be one of the world’s top airports, named Istanbul New Airport, set to be completed around 2028.

According to a report by the UK's Daily Mail,despite several terrorist attacks in recent years, the plan for this new airport remains unaffected. Once completed, it will become one of the world’s mega airports, featuring six runways and serving 350 destinations.

The airport will be located 35 kilometers from Istanbul city center, with access via railway, metro, and bus. Covering an area of approximately 3.35 million square meters, the control tower will be designed in the shape of a tulip. The terminal will house the world’s largest duty-free shopping area, along with facilities including parks, hotels, a mosque, a medical center, and a convention center. It is expected to serve about 90 million passengers annually.
