Blue Tears in Beihai Tunnel to Make Debut on April 1 – Glowing Waters Resemble Movie "Life of Pi"

The "blue tears" of Matsu, which caused a "tear-chasing craze" last year, will enter their peak season again in April. In addition to the chance of seeing blue tears along the coast, this year’s nighttime blue tears experience in Beihai Tunnel is also scheduled to kick off on April 1.

The period from April to October each year is when blue tears are most likely to appear. This year’s Beihai Tunnel blue tears event will run from April 1 to October 31, daily between 18:00 and 21:00, with a total of six sessions. Each session accommodates 48 people, the boat ride lasts about 20 minutes, and the full ticket price is NT$300 per person. Reservations are now open.

As a natural phenomenon, the appearance of blue tears is unpredictable each time. Compared to last year, the blue tears in the Matsu area have emerged earlier this year, sparking excitement among many photography enthusiasts and travel aficionados. Navigating the glowing blue waters inside Beihai Tunnel by boat feels even more dreamlike, reminiscent of the movie "Life of Pi." The Matsu National Scenic Area Administration also noted that this year’s blue tears chasing activity in Beihai Tunnel will feature low-light guide lights and the use of new, wider boats with greater passenger capacity.
