2016 Yilan Green Expo Opens to Promote Food Safety and Encourage a "Grain Heart"

The 2016 Yilan Green Expo opened on the 26th at the Wushikan Scenic Area in Su'ao, and the event will run for one and a half months. The county government has set this year’s theme as“Grain Heart”, creating a variety of interactive exhibition areas to promote a green, toxin-free lifestyle. It hopes that through the event, the public can distinguish the authenticity of food products on the market and eat with peace of mind.

This year’s event site is divided into five major themed areas: “Drifting Forest,” “Terra Genesis,” “Era of Reclamation,” “Grain Heart Village,” and “Agriforest Secret Realm,” featuring a total of 38 exhibition zones. These range from driftwood art displays to hands-on farming experiences. The organizers have also made efforts to promote environmental protection while advocating food safety, planning activities related to waste recycling and reuse.

This Green Expo especially uses exhibitions to teach the public how to select healthy, toxin-free food in the future. Additionally, chefs will be present in the “Five Senses Food Classroom” to demonstrate cooking using local organic ingredients, while also inspiring food and agricultural education.

At the same time, the organizers have set up a “Children’s Zone” in the “Grain Heart Pavilion.” Specialists use storytelling to teach kids how to enjoy food safely and joyfully, with food safety as the core message. Considering technological advancements, the area also features a “True Food Digital Dining Table,” where students can use tablets to learn which processed foods are harmful, enhancing their understanding of food.

The Green Expo states that it hopes to develop participants’ ability to choose healthy food through exhibition activities, so they won’t be afraid to discern between inferior or processed food during future shopping.
