Kumamoto Airport to reopen domestic flights on the 19th; ANA and JAL to resume services

Kumamoto Airport was severely damaged by the earthquake and was closed due to partial destruction. According to Japanese media, the airport is expected to reopen on the 19th. The first phase of reopening will focus on domestic flights, with airlines such as ANA and Japan Airlines resuming domestic services to Kumamoto. Due to ongoing repairs to baggage screening and passenger security checks, flights departing from Kumamoto remain suspended for now. As for international flights, repairs are still underway.

The initial reopening will focus on domestic flights, with carriers like ANA and Japan Airlines operating domestic routes to Kumamoto. Since luggage inspection and passenger security screening facilities are still being repaired, flights departing from Kumamoto are currently still grounded. Regarding international flights, repairs are ongoing.

Regarding flights from Taiwan to Kumamoto, China Airlines stated that they are currently waiting for the completion of international terminal repairs. They will assess passenger demand before planning any flight schedules and cannot guarantee an immediate return to the original regular flight operations.
