Adorably Cute Attraction: South Africa’s Winery “Duck Army” Helps Maintain the Vineyard

According to the UK’s Daily Mail, a winery in South Africa called Vergenoegd Wine Estate has raised 800 ducks to tackle pest problems. The ducks’ adorable daily routine has unexpectedly turned into a popular tourist attraction.

A vineyard may typically evoke images of tranquility and peace, but this winery has created a lively and entertaining scene thanks to its 800 duck pest controllers. Like a well-drilled army, the ducks march to work at the same time every day, mainly feeding on snails and insects. Their effective pest control has been so successful that the vineyard has been breeding ducks for this purpose since 1984.

Nicole Arnold, who works on the farm, said the ducks act like “mobile pesticides,” helping to boost grape yields. Now, the farm has also become a favorite spot for tourists due to these ducks. Visitors can watch the cute ducks at two designated times each day: 9:45 AM and 3:30 PM.
