The Colorful Sydney Light Music Festival (VIVID SYDNEY) is a large-scale annual event held in late May to early June. In 2016, it takes place from May 27 to June 18. This festival uses light and art to illuminate Sydney. Since its launch in 2009, it has become a major winter celebration in Australia. It won five awards in 2014, including “Australia’s Best Tourism Event,” “Best Cultural, Arts or Music Event,” and “Australia’s Favourite Event.” Lasting 18 days, the event attracts nearly 1.5 million visitors each year.

Every year at this time, top international designers and artists gather in Sydney. The festival lights up from 6 pm until midnight. Most of the light art installations are concentrated around Circular Quay and Darling Harbour, as well as at the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, Martin Place, Central Park, the University of Sydney, The Star in Pyrmont, and Chatswood in North Sydney. Visitors can enjoy music while admiring the illuminated city architecture, explore numerous interactive light installations, and even see pedestrians dressed in glowing outfits.
