Travel website Price of Travel compiled a list of the world’s 24 most affordable overwater villa resorts in 2016, with Malaysia’s Golden Palm Tree Villas & Spa taking the top spot, costing about 4,000–4,500 yuan per night. Additionally, Malaysia’s Datai Langkawi and Langkawi Success Beach Resort ranked 4th and 7th, respectively.

The top 10 most affordable overwater villa resorts in the world for 2016 include: Malaysia’s Golden Palm Tree Villas & Spa, Maldives’ Reethi Beach Resort, Maldives’ Sun Island Resort, Malaysia’s Datai Langkawi, Maldives’ Dream Island Resort, Maldives’ Ella Huvadhoo Island Resort, Malaysia’s Langkawi Success Beach Resort, Tahiti’s Pearl Resort & Spa, Panama’s Bocas del Toro Resort, and Maldives’ Kanifinolhu Island Resort.

Golden Palm Tree Villas & Spa has been in operation since 2010, featuring 392 overwater villas ranging from small to large, with the largest villas offering three bedrooms. The resort was renovated in early 2014, with nightly rates at 129 to 149 USD, approximately 4,000 to 4,500 New Taiwan dollars. Tourism Malaysia states that Golden Palm Tree Villas & Spa is located along the coast south of Kuala Lumpur International Airport, and when combined with budget airline AirAsia flights, it becomes an extremely affordable holiday destination.

Ranked 4th, Datai Langkawi is a little over four hours from Kuala Lumpur and is a private island in the style of the Maldives. It has 140 rooms, including 45 overwater villas. The resort features seven restaurants and bars, offers a wide range of water activities, and includes a spa. It is a popular honeymoon destination for members of the Malaysian royal family and international travelers. A night here costs about 330 to 450 USD, approximately 10,000 to 13,500 New Taiwan dollars.

Langkawi Success Beach Resort, located on Malaysia’s Langkawi Island, ranked 7th. It has 350 rooms, including 47 overwater villas. All guest rooms have balconies, allowing visitors to be surrounded by seawater and a tranquil atmosphere. Nights cost about 349 to 427 USD, approximately 10,500 to 12,900 New Taiwan dollars.
