Taiwan’s longest skywalk gets a new contender: Taoyuan’s “New Xikou Suspension Bridge” to open by year-end

The Xikou Suspension Bridge in Taoyuan City’s Fuxing District was demolished due to aging infrastructure, and the Fuxing District Office has builtthe “New Xikou Suspension Bridge”. The district office stated that the bridge is expected to open by the end of the year. Once operational, it will replace Pingtung’s Shan Chuan Liuli Suspension Bridge as Taiwan’s longest hammock-style suspension bridge.

The Fuxing District Office said the new bridge is located upstream of the Shimen Reservoir, connecting both sides of Jiapan Mountain and Xikou Tribe. The entire bridge spans 303 meters. The district office noted that about 80% of the bridge construction is now complete, with plans to open it to the public by the end of the year. Details regarding ticketing and other specifics are still being planned.

In addition to enjoying the surrounding mountain and forest scenery, the New Xikou Suspension Bridge offers views of the Shimen Reservoir from its midpoint. The scenery changes with varying water levels. When the reservoir reaches its highest level of 250 meters, the lowest part of the bridge is about 10 meters above the water surface. Visitors can enjoy walking on this skywalk while taking in the panoramic views of northern Taiwan’s mountains and forests, as well as the reservoir.
