Osaka Castle Main Keep
Osaka Landmark | Best Blooming Period: Mid-March to Early April
Let’s kick off our list of cherry blossom spots with Osaka’s iconic landmark — Osaka Castle Main Keep. Located right in the heart of Osaka, this main keep is not only a city symbol but also a prime example of traditional Japanese palace architecture. Thanks to Japan’s distinct seasons, the keep takes on different looks throughout the year. The most classic views are cherry blossoms in spring and red leaves in autumn. But Xiu personally prefers the cherry blossoms — the colors of the keep and the sakura seem to belong to the same palette. Surrounded by over 3,000 cherry trees, the main keep is truly a breathtaking sight that fans of Japanese architecture shouldn’t miss in their lifetime!
Osaka Castle Park is also spectacular at night. You can enjoy the night blossoms and admire the illuminated main keep. There’s also a special spring market open during this time, ensuring a full day of excitement that you won’t want to end.

Osaka Mint Bureau Sakura no Tsutsumi

When it comes to cherry blossom viewing in Osaka, one spot you absolutely cannot miss is the Osaka Mint Bureau. Every year, it hosts the spectacular Sakura no Tsutsumi (Cherry Blossom Path) event. What makes the Mint Bureau’s cherry blossom display so famous is its collection of over 100 different cherry varieties, offering a breathtaking panorama of blooms. Both locals and international visitors rave about it, making it an unmissable spring spectacle. Plus, this event is held only once a year for a limited seven days — miss it and you’ll have to wait another whole year!

Momoda Sakuranomiya Park
Best Blooming Period: Mid-April
For a unique cherry blossom experience, head to Momoda Sakuranomiya Park. Though not as crowded as the Mint Bureau’s Sakura no Tsutsumi, it’s equally stunning, with around 4,800 cherry trees planted along the riverbank — you can even see the blossoms reflected on the water. Beyond daytime viewing, the park also offers night cherry blossom events, where illuminated trees transform the blossoms from youthful girls into elegant ladies. It’s a popular spot for Osaka residents to jog or take leisurely strolls. Momoda Sakuranomiya Park is also very close to the Osaka Mint Bureau, so you can easily visit both in one trip!

Expo '70 Commemorative Park
Best cherry blossom season: Late March to mid-April
Expo '70 Commemorative Park was the site of Japan’s World Expo in 1970. After the event ended, it was transformed into a recreational space for the public. The park features two major highlights: the Japanese Garden and the Natural Cultural Garden. On sunny days, locals often come here to relax, have picnics, and children love playing here, making it a very cozy place.
The Expo '70 site is already spectacular on its own, but when you add cherry blossoms, it becomes truly magical. If your schedule allows, it’s a great idea to come here for cherry blossom viewing and a picnic — an absolutely delightful experience. If you’re lucky, you might even catch the romantic sight of cherry petals falling like snow (cherry blossom snow)!
Transportation:Take the Midosuji Line of the Osaka Metro to Senri-Chuo Station, then transfer to the Osaka Monorail and get off at Expo Commemoration Park Station.
Katsuoji Temple
Best cherry blossom season: Late March to mid-April
Katsuoji Temple boasts a history of over 1,000 years and enshrines the Eleven-Faced Thousand-Armed Kannon Bodhisattva. It is one of the key temples of Japanese Mahayana Buddhism. Beyond its religious significance, the temple’s scenery throughout the four seasons is breathtaking — cherry blossoms in spring and red maple leaves in autumn. Especially the cherry blossoms — the pale pink and white blooms contrast beautifully with the temple's vivid reds, taking the visual experience to another level.
Besides cherry blossom viewing, Katsuoji Temple is also famous for its daruma dolls. Spring marks the beginning of the year, and visitors often come here to get a daruma doll to take home, praying for good luck and success throughout the year. Apart from tourists, it is also a popular spot for locals to pray for blessings.
*Small reminder:If you wish to pray for good fortune and take a daruma doll home, it’s recommended to look up more detailed practices. What you intend as a blessing could end up having the opposite effect if done incorrectly.
Transportation:Take the Midosuji Line of the Osaka Metro to Senri-Chuo Station, then transfer to the Hankyu Bus (bound for Kitaseta Reien), and get off at Katsuoji Station.
Kishiwada Castle
Best flower viewing season: Late March to mid-April
Want a peaceful cherry blossom experience without the crowds? Then consider visiting Kishiwada Castle. Like Osaka Castle, it is one of Japan’s classic traditional castle structures. When the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, you can enjoy the beautiful view of the moat, cherry trees, and the main keep from the outside. Inside, you can stroll along pathways lined with traditional Japanese architecture, feeling as if you’ve stepped back in time to the Edo period. There are also some local Japanese food stalls nearby selling snacks.

Satsukiyama Park
Best time for flower viewing: Late March to mid-April
If you're traveling with family, I highly recommend visiting Satsukiyama Park. It's one of the Osaka Greenery 100 Selection parks, featuring a wide variety of plants and a mini zoo. You can also enjoy views of Osaka and admire cherry blossoms here. The zoo on the mountain allows kids to enter for free — you might even spot kangaroos. Isn't that exciting? It's a win-win: enjoy cherry blossoms while bringing the little ones to see animals. Both adults and kids will have a great time.
