The Baby Blue Eyes flower, which blooms around the same time as wisteria, is most famously viewed at Ibaraki Prefecture’s Hitachi Seaside Park. From late April to early May each year, up to 4.5 million Baby Blue Eyes flowers burst into bloom on the gentle slopes here, creating a spectacular sight. Some even call it “a must-see world wonder before you die!”
Regular photography may not fully capture the romantic vibe of this blue floral ocean. Editors from the website “World Wonders You Must See Before You Die!” used a drone to document this year’s Baby Blue Eyes bloom. Against the blue sky, the flower sea and the sky blend almost seamlessly, perfectly demonstrating what it means for the sea and sky to become one.
Hitachi Seaside Park is just a two-hour drive from Tokyo and covers approximately 350 hectares. In addition to Sunny Hill — a 3.5-hectare slope covered entirely with Baby Blue Eyes — the park also features daffodils, rapeseed flowers, various types of tulips, and amusement rides. Neighboring Tochigi Prefecture is home to the famous Ashikaga Flower Park, which boasts what is said to be Japan’s largest wisteria display (related article), so many visitors choose to tour both destinations in a single day.
