Global Young Chef Competition: Three Young Chefs from Taiwan Advance to the Semifinals

The list of regional semifinalists for the 2016 S.Pellegrino Young Chef competition (S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2016, SPYC2016) was announced this week. Among them, three young chefs from Taiwan have stood out: Justin Maute, Deputy Executive Chef at S.T.A.Y. in Taipei; Cheung Cheuk Chi (张卓淇), Deputy Executive Chef at The Westin Taipei; and Kim Hock Su (史金福), Chef at Basil, Le Bistrot in Taipei. Next, they will compete alongside seven other selected young chefs at Le Cordon Bleu in Seoul, South Korea on June 27, competing for the championship spot in the Northeast Asia regional semifinals.

The second phase of SPYC2016’s Northeast Asia (South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Philippines) regional semifinals will be held on June 27 at Le Cordon Bleu in South Korea. The judging panel includes several world-renowned chefs from Asia: Lanshu Chen (陈岚舒), Taiwan’s 2014 Best Female Chef in Asia; Tony Boy Escalante from the Philippines; Vicky Lau from Hong Kong; Julien Royer from Singapore; and Yim Jungsik (林正植) from South Korea. After the competition, one chef will be selected as the “Mentor Chef” for the region, providing guidance and advice on their dishes to prepare them for the global finals.
