UK Survey Ranks Finnair as World’s ‘Cleanest’ Airline; Taiwan and Japan Airlines Fail to Make the List

A study conducted by the University of Warwick in the UK shows that Finnair has been ranked as the “cleanest” airline, with TAP Air Portugal and Virgin Australia also making the top spots.

The Daily Mailreported on this survey, but the “clean” in this study doesn’t refer to the cabin environment—it’s about airlines with lower overall environmental emissions. On the other end, many US airlines, such as Delta and United, are frequently among those causing significant carbon emissions.

Although some have questioned the accuracy of the study, it also highlights the environmental crisis brought about by the booming tourism industry—airline numbers are expected to double by 2030. However, reducing emissions is not just the responsibility of airlines; carriers that take the environment into consideration deserve priority from travelers. This survey shows that no airlines from Japan or Taiwan made it into the top 20.
