The Huanchung Night Market in Taichung has closed for the third time after reopening. In March last year, it reopened with nearly 300 diverse stalls and many dazzling installations, sparking widespread discussion. However, in mid-February this year, it announced that it would cease operations due to the expiration of its lease. Meanwhile, the Daqing Night Market near Daqing Railway Station is planned to open before this summer.

When the Huanchung Night Market first opened at the end of 2014, it was forced to shut down after just three days because its location was designated as urban planning agricultural land, which legally could not be used as a street vendor concentration area. After reapplying, it reopened at the end of 2016, but ceased operations again less than a year later due to declining foot traffic. In 2017, it reopened with great fanfare, featuring nearly 300 stalls, rest areas, and installation art such as a 50-meter light corridor to attract crowds. Yet, it still closed after a year.

Additionally, a large new night market is set to open in the southern part of the city, located near Daqing Railway Station and Chung Shan Medical University. With convenient transportation and an operating team from the well-known Hanxi Night Market in Taichung, the news has generated great anticipation among residents in the southern part of Taichung and the Wuri area.

The Daqing Night Market covers more than 1,000 ping and features a fairly open location. It is currently still in the merchant recruitment phase, with hopes to open before summer in two months, and is temporarily planned to operate on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays evenings.
