Selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Sunset Spots, Nyūdōzaki Cape is located at the northernmost tip of the Oga Peninsula in northwest Akita Prefecture. From here, you can take in the vast expanse of the Sea of Japan on three sides — a spectacular sight that becomes even more breathtaking at sunset. As the layered sky softens and the sun gradually sinks below the horizon, the wonders of nature leave a profound impression.
The Oga Peninsula resembles an axe stretching out into the Sea of Japan, with its coastline dotted with bizarre rocks and rugged cliffs, offering magnificent coastal scenery. Nyūdōzaki Cape lies on the 40th parallel north, marked by a monument made from the peninsula’s signature andesite stone. In addition, the iconic black-and-white lighthouse — one of Japan’s 50 Best Lighthouses — stands proudly here, making the sweeping views of Nyūdōzaki Cape even more captivating.
The black-and-white lighthouse at Nyūdōzaki Cape houses an exhibition room with information about the cape, and the views of the Sea of Japan from the top are even more spectacular.
