To meet travelers' needs for returning home, visiting family, and traveling during the Spring Festival, Taiwan High Speed Rail will operate an additional 307 trains (155 southbound and 152 northbound) during the 2011 Spring Festival transport period (from January 31 to February 8, 2011). A total of 1,470 trains will run over the nine-day period, providing 1,453,830 seats—26.4% more capacity than the regular schedule. Starting from Tuesday, January 4, 2011, both group and individual passengers can make reservations. From midnight on January 4, travelers can book round-trip tickets for the entire Spring Festival holiday in advance through 24-hour online booking, automated voice services, or convenience store ticketing channels.
With the large number of people using the high-speed rail to return home, the public is advised to pay attention to ticket information early.
Considering that passengers carry more luggage when returning home or traveling during the Spring Festival, to ensure service quality during this extended holiday period, Taiwan High Speed Rail will implement a reserved-seating system only and suspend the non-reserved seating service on all trains during the Spring Festival transport period. Passengers holding monthly or multi-ride tickets are kindly requested to purchase reserved seat tickets for travel.
According to Taiwan High Speed Rail’s planning, during peak hours of passenger flow in the Spring Festival transport period, up to 6 trains per hour can be operated in one direction. On February 5 (the third day of the Lunar New Year) and February 7 (the fifth day), a total of 175 trains will run in both directions—the highest number of trains in a single day during the Spring Festival and also the highest daily record since the line began operation.

The ticket discount and service details for Taiwan High Speed Rail during the 2011 Spring Festival transport period are as follows: The 10% discount on specified train services applies until January 31 (Monday). Therefore, passengers purchasing tickets for trains departing at 9:00 PM or later on that day can still enjoy a 10% discount on standard-class reserved seats. Additionally, the “Winter Vacation College Student Travel Discount Program” does not apply during the Spring Festival transport period. For passengers with multi-ride or monthly tickets, due to the suspension of non-reserved seating from January 31 to February 8, Taiwan High Speed Rail will automatically extend the validity period of the discount based on the number of affected days.
