Stop 1: Chūōzai Bridge Station – Blue Bottle

Head to Chūōzai Bridge for a charming old-town stroll. Here you’ll find the famous Blue Bottle Coffee. A pancake and coffee combo will make your day start off great—the pancakes, fresh out of the oven, are especially delicious. Don’t forget to buy a Blue Bottle mug as a souvenir.

If you don’t have time to try the famous Fukagawa Donburi nearby, head to “Edo Omiyageya Takahashi” to buy “Fukagawa Meshi So” (Fukagawa Meshi mix) and cook it at home using a rice cooker.

Stop 2: Tokyo Station – KITTE

Next to Tokyo Station, the KITTE building offers plenty of lunch options. On the first floor, you can buy limited-edition postcards at the post office, then head up to the fourth floor to KINJI by Nakagawa Masashichi & Co. for a heart-shaped floating lemon tea. Finally, enjoy the view from the rooftop of Tokyo Station—all in one go: food, shopping, and sightseeing.

Stop 3: Toranomon Hills

In the afternoon when you want to avoid the crowds, visit Toranomon Hills to find a mascot disguised as Toranomon. Nearby seating is available for a quick rest, so grab a coffee, sit quietly, and pretend to be a Japanese office worker while enjoying the view of the green garden—it’s really relaxing.

Stop 4: Ningyōchō – Matsamura Bakery

Next, be sure to visit Ningyōchō to find “Matsamura Bakery,” run by 83-year-old twin grandfathers who are the originators of the Japanese yakisoba bread. The yakisoba bread usually sells out by the afternoon—but I still got a sweet red bean bread to eat in-store. It's a completely traditional, handmade bread and absolutely delicious. This is a well-known and beloved local shop.

Station 5: Omotesando GLACIEL
Before afternoon tea or dinner, you can’t miss dessert—so I headed to Omotesando and chose GLACIEL ice cream. The second floor has a cake salon for sit-down service, but I ran out of time and could only try their ice cream cup.

Station 6: Ikebukuro Station – Enjoy a Meal
For the final dinner stop back in Ikebukuro, there are plenty of choices such as Mujirushi Ramen, Rikyu Beef Tongue, and Ippudo—all great for solo travelers. You can also pick up a box of Wasanbon mochi at the station to enjoy back at your hotel. It won the 2014 Monde Selection Silver Award, by the way !
