With less than half a year to go before the London Olympics (July 27, 2012), in addition to venue preparations and security drills, the organizers have also started putting eye-catching (and wallet-emptying) official merchandise up for sale online, allowing people from around the world to browse, place orders, make payments, and have their packages delivered right to their doorstep.
The online shop offers a wide range of items, including clothing, socks, mugs, tote bags, mascots, toys, household goods, sports equipment… Products featuring the Union Jack, Olympic mascots, and Olympic logos are especially collectible. There’s also a dedicated Mascot section where you can find the uniquely cute 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic mascots—Wenlock and Mandeville.

Wenlock and Mandeville symbolize two energetic athletes, embodying elements representative of both Britain and the Olympics. Wenlock’s head is designed based on the shape of the roof of the Olympic Stadium, and the light on his forehead is inspired by the lights on London’s black cabs. His eyes are like camera lenses, ready to capture everywhere he goes and everything he sees. The three sharp points on his head represent the podiums for gold, silver, and bronze medalists at the Olympics, aiming to inspire all participating athletes to give their best and achieve the highest honors. His wrists are adorned with the five Olympic rings, symbols of friendship.
Mandeville’s eyes also represent camera lenses, recording everywhere he goes and everything he sees. The fork-like shape on his head is the symbol of the Paralympics. His hands and tail are designed using aerodynamic principles, representing his athletic spirit and constant vitality. The timer on his wrist serves as motivation to help him maintain—or even break—his personal records. The light on his head, also inspired by London’s black cabs, illuminates wherever he goes. Products typically arrive within about a week.
