Two of Nantou County’s most famous scenic spots—Sun Moon Lake and Xitou—are now directly connected by a new bus route. This service is operated under the route license for “Sun Moon Lake – Shuili – Jiji – Zhushan – Xitou,” jointly granted to Nantou Bus and Yuanlin Bus. Buses run daily starting at 07:00 in the morning and 13:30 in the afternoon, with departures every two hours, totaling six round-trip services per day. In addition to linking these two major attractions, the route also passes by several well-known tourist sites such as the Shuili Snake Kiln, Jiji Railway Station, Zhushan Zinan Temple, and Lugu. Until the end of February, one-day tickets are available with a discount of NT$200.

In the past, many tourists have noted that while it was very convenient to reach Sun Moon Lake and Xitou via Taiwan’s HAO! Bus shuttle services from Taichung, planning a combined trip to both destinations was difficult due to the lack of direct bus connections. With the new “Sun Moon Lake – Xitou” route now in operation, travelers no longer need to go through the hassle of transferring, saving both time and money. Passengers can purchase a one-day ticket for the “Sun Moon Lake – Xitou” route, allowing unlimited boardings within the day, and can also take the opportunity to go cycling in Jiji or visit the Shuili Snake Kiln and Zinan Temple for blessings.
Additionally, bus operators on this route have begun planning package tours. In the future, they will combine the Sun Moon Lake HAO Bus Pass and the Xitou HAO Bus Pass to launch a brand-new “Sun Moon Lake – Xitou” travel package. This package will integrate tickets for the “Sun Moon Lake – Xitou” route, the Taiwan HAO Bus – Sun Moon Lake Line, the Taiwan HAO Bus – Xitou Line, along with discounts from other partner merchants, offering an affordable and convenient new way to explore the area.
