Nominated for the “Taiwan Top 10 Small Tourist Towns” selection with its theme of woodcarving art, Sanyi will see the Miaoli County Government resume operation of the Old Mountain Line train every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from today until April 19 to encourage the public to support Sanyi by “riding the train and exploring Sanyi,” while casting their votes for the town.

The much-loved Old Mountain Line departs from Sanyi Station, offering views of Shengxing Station — the highest point on the Taiwan Railway — and the historic Longteng Broken Bridge. The route passes through seven tunnels, three railway bridges, and the scenic Liyutan Reservoir, before crossing the Da’an River to reach Taichung’s Old Tai’an Station. The entire journey boasts abundant natural and cultural landscapes.

In conjunction with the Taiwan Top 10 Small Tourist Towns selection, passengers who ride the Old Mountain Line sightseeing train and fill out a postcard to vote will receive a set of Miaoli scenic postcards. Additionally, each trip of the Old Mountain Line diesel-electric sightseeing train will sell 180 seated tickets (available via Taiwan Railways’ phone reservation system or online booking), priced at NT$100 for adults and NT$50 for concessional tickets. Each trip will also have 60 standing tickets, available only on the day of travel at Sanyi Station from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM.
