The 2012 FIA Formula One World Championship is set to begin on March 25 this year. With former world champion Kimi Raikkonen making his comeback to the F1 grid, this year will see six F1 world champions competing, including Kimi Raikkonen (Finland), Michael Schumacher (Germany), Sebastian Vettel (Germany), Lewis Hamilton (UK), Jenson Button (UK), and Fernando Alonso (Spain). It’s a rare spectacle since the inaugural F1 season in 1950.

German driver Michael Schumacher, a seven-time F1 world champion, once praised Malaysia’s Sepang Circuit, saying, “Sepang is truly amazing!” The Sepang International Circuit was completed in 1998 and designed by renowned German architect Hermann Tilke. The circuit design takes into account both drivers and spectators, featuring a main grandstand topped with a “banana leaf”-shaped roof resembling that of a space shuttle. Tilke once said, “Spectators here can look drivers straight in the eye!” The banana-shaped canopy acts like a large reflective wave deflector; as F1 cars roar past at high speed, sound exceeding 130 decibels reflects off the roof and back to the audience. The high-frequency sonic booms created are unmatched by any other circuit. The most talked-about feature of the Sepang Circuit is the long straight known as the Mall Area, where F1 cars push their engines to the limit on two symmetrical straights stretching 800 meters, reaching speeds up to 320 km/h. Being there, you can feel your blood boil with excitement.

Additionally, from March 10 to April 15 is the Malaysia GP Shopping Festival. Malls and department stores in the Klang Valley offer numerous discounts and promotions, while Penang also enthusiastically joins in this annual Malaysia GP Shopping Festival. Visitors can enjoy shopping while watching the F1 action.
