Relais & Châteaux properties and restaurants across Asia will join hands on March 31 to support the "Earth Hour 2012" lights-off campaign, and will present romantic candlelit dinners from 8:30 to 9:30 pm that evening.
The Le Moût French Restaurant in Taichung, Taiwan, China, and the Jingmai Brilliant Resort and Spa, a wellness resort in Yunnan, China, are both new members of Relais & Châteaux, participating in Earth Hour for the first time. Le Moût, founded by "Grand Chef" Élaine Chin, is a highlight in Taiwan’s culinary scene, blending the essence of French fine dining with Asian flavors in a creative way. The restaurant will offer a candlelit dinner and siphon coffee. Meanwhile, the Jingmai Brilliant Resort and Spa, nestled in the famous tea gardens of Pu’er, Yunnan, will host a complimentary “Blue Moon” candlelit barbecue party for guests.

Additionally, Jean Christophe Nager, General Manager of The Pavilions Phuket resort, said: "This is the second year the resort has joined Relais & Châteaux properties across Asia in supporting Earth Hour, and we are truly happy and honored to be part of this meaningful event."
Heritage Suites Hotel, located near the Angkor Wat World Heritage Site in Siem Reap, Cambodia, will feature fire performances by the Cambodian acrobatic troupe Phare Ponleu Selpak from Battambang Province to light up the darkness. Guests can enjoy a poolside candlelit dinner while watching traditional Khmer Apsara dance.
India’s Sher Bagh, a luxury wilderness camp with jungle tents, is an ideal base for tracking wildlife and tigers in Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan. On the night of Earth Hour, Sher Bagh will turn off the lights in its tents and, as usual, illuminate the entire camp with traditional “mashals” torches.
JapaMala Resort in Tioman Island, Malaysia, and Villa Samadhi in Kuala Lumpur will offer eco-centric dinners featuring environmentally friendly cuisine to convey conservation messages. JapaMala Resort also hosts representatives from the World Wildlife Fund and numerous NGOs throughout the year, including wildlife experts, scientists, conservationists, biologists, and other environmental specialists conducting fieldwork on turtle and marine conservation projects on the island.
Earth Hour was initiated by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in 2007 as a stance against climate change. After its first event in Sydney, Australia, it has grown into a global campaign. Last year (2011), iconic landmarks such as the Presidential Office and Taipei 101 also actively participated, and we look forward to even more countries joining in this year.
