Starting today, Taipei Confucius Temple has transformed the Minglun Hall into a brand-new 4D special effects cinema, and produced two 4D stereoscopic films—“Confucius” and “Taipei Confucius Temple”—for regular screenings. The so-called 4D adds various environmental effects such as wind, flashes, smoke, and vibrations on top of 3D stereoscopic films, creating a simulated environment that’s one level more immersive than 3D.

The 4D theater will screen a total of two 3D films, each about 15 minutes long. In the film “Taipei Confucius Temple,” Confucius’ 79th-generation direct descendant and Sacrificial Official Kung Chui-chang is specially invited to introduce the historical origins of the temple. The content is divided into four chapters: Arrival in Taiwan, Initial Construction of the Confucius Temple, Efforts to Rebuild, and Eternal Legacy. It also incorporates a magical theater atmosphere and special effects animation to present the temple’s treasured historical footage. The beauty of the Confucius Temple architecture is captured through 3D live-action shots, showcasing details of the historic site from perspectives normally unseen by visitors.
The other film, “Confucius,” uses glove puppetry to portray the life of Confucius, including the Jiagu Meeting, his political setbacks, his travels across various states, and his ultimate influence on later generations. The film features impressive special effects such as the flames of battle drums and scenes of clashing swords and spears, depicting the chaotic era in which Confucius lived. There is also the famous passage from the Analects, “Why not each speak your aspirations?” where teacher and students sit on the ground discussing their ideals. With serene and beautiful visuals, the film conveys Confucius’ humanistic Confucian spirit. The trial operation screening period begins on March 22 and runs for 17 days. From Tuesday to Friday each week, screenings of “Taipei Confucius Temple” and “Confucius” will be shown at 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 2:00 PM, and 3:00 PM, one show of each film per time slot.
