More convenient fun ahead！ Tainan to build a “monorail” system, set to launch in 2018

Will Tainan get a metro too? The Tainan City Transportation Bureau has preliminarily planned to build two metro lines suitable for Tainan, with a total length of about 40 kilometers, expected to start construction in 2018.

Although referred to as a metro, it will actually use a single rail — a “monorail” that takes up less space. Similar systems have been implemented in countries such as Japan and Singapore’s Sentosa. According to the Tainan City Transportation Bureau’s plan, the monorail will initially consist of two routes: the “Anping Line,” which will connect Pingshi Camp, pass through Tainan Railway Station, and extend to Anping, and the “Loop Line” that will serve the urban area.

The Transportation Bureau stated that if everything goes smoothly, design work is expected to be completed in 2017, with construction starting in 2018. The goal is to make travel more convenient for tourists visiting Tainan while also improving urban transit connectivity.
