Japan’s renowned tourist attraction “Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route,” famed as a once-in-a-lifetime snowy wonderland, opens this year on April 15. Online tickets for 2019 are now available for purchase. The route will enter its winter closure period from December until April 9 of the following year—make sure to catch the snowscapes throughout spring, summer, and autumn.

Known as Japan’s Alps and Japan’s Roof, the “Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route” is open to traffic annually from April to November. Along this route, Murodo-daira at an altitude of 2,450 meters boasts one of the world’s largest snow accumulations, with snow reaching up to 20 meters in depth.
After snow removal, a 500-meter stretch offers an exceptionally spectacular view known as the Snow Valley (also called the Great Snow Valley). Visitors can get off the vehicle here to stroll and experience being surrounded by towering snow walls. This year’s “Tateyama Snow Valley Stroll” event kicks off on April 15 and runs through June 22. During the walk, visitors can enjoy snow walls over 10 meters high on both sides, with the breathtaking scenery filled with the romantic atmosphere of a silver-white snow world.
Special note: In recent years, aerial photography and drones have become popular, but the use of drones is strictly prohibited along the entire Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, part of Japan’s Alps. Usage may result in strict management control, and any captured footage must be deleted.
