Weekend Forest Wellness: Breathe Deep at Huisun

Situated in Nantou, Huisun Forest Farm is a forest close to urban life. The park’s trails—including the Pine Wind Mountain Trail, Azalea Ridge Trail, Frog Stone Trail, Wading Trail, Mountain Mist Path, and Forest Bathing Trail—each showcase their own charm, whether enveloped in fog, dotted with rare peach blossoms, or alive with birdsong. Especially popular is the Wading Trail, where visitors can step on gentle streams, breathe in precious phytoncides, and immerse their mind, body, and soul in the forest, making it a favorite among children.

 

 

The rare Formosan blue magpie, which many thought hard to spot, surprisingly made frequent appearances at Huisun Forest Farm. Early in the morning, visitors reported seeing 5–6 of them foraging near the papaya trees by the lodging area. Just as they were marveling at the sight, another group shared that they too had spotted the birds right outside their cabins. Throughout the year, the farm hosts a variety of rare bird species, including the Taiwan blue magpie, scarlet minivet, Taiwan yuhina, and Taiwan hwamei—no wonder many wildlife photographers, armed with powerful telephoto lenses, come here to capture these feathered wonders.
