A delegation of approximately 600 people from the 39th JC Youth Ship "Tōkai Maru (Tokai Maru)", organized by the Tokai Regional Council of the Junior Chamber International (JCI), successfully set a new Guinness World Record for a three-legged race event today (June 5) at Guandishan Riverside Park in Taipei City. The new record was set by 602 participants using 603 legs. To express their appreciation for the friendly relations between Taiwan and Japan, the Japanese side immediately presented the certificate of recognition to the Taipei City Government after receiving it.

Since 1974, the Tokai Regional Council of the Junior Chamber International has organized a delegation every year to visit various parts of the world. This year, in gratitude for Taiwan’s assistance to Japan following the Great East Japan Earthquake last year, Taiwan was chosen as a stop on this year’s journey. On June 5, they challenged the Guinness World Record at Guandishan Riverside Park.

The 602 participants included 474 Japanese youths and 128 Taiwanese youths. The 602 individuals had their feet tied with red and blue bands, and under the direction of flags and commands, they successfully walked 50 meters in the rhythm of “red, blue, red, blue.” The challenge took less than 20 minutes. Upon reaching the finish line and having the record officially confirmed by the adjudicator, everyone erupted in cheers, high-fived, and celebrated together this historic moment.

The previous record for the "Most Participants in a Multi-Legged Race" was held by 324 participants from Kyoto Gakuen University in Japan on September 19, 2011. Carlos Martinez, the Spanish Guinness World Records adjudicator, stated that this challenge with 602 people forming a straight line 350 meters wide, moving forward 50 meters without falling or interruption, was highly difficult—especially with the muddy conditions on-site. He congratulated both China and Japan on jointly setting this record in Taipei City.
