Daxi is one of the earliest developed areas in Taoyuan. Its prosperity from trade led to the rise of many businesses and merchants. With Baroque-style architecture left over from the Japanese colonial era, Daxi has formed its own unique architectural character. Spend a weekend with your family and explore Daxi in Taoyuan!

Originally a small lake where General Chiang Kai-shek and his wife used to take walks and go boating, Houci Lake offers an enchanting walking trail that begins from the side gate of Cihu, crosses a small hill, and spans about 2 kilometers. Along the way, you’ll be surrounded by stunning scenery as well as remnants from the martial law period such as command posts, bunkers, iron control gates, and offices — all definitely worth a visit.

On a nice day, you can also bring your whole family to the vast grasslands of Shihkuan Bureau for a picnic, immersing yourself in nature. Flower lovers may also head to Daxi Flower Farm, the largest flower field in northern Taiwan, for a floral experience.

Daxi Old Street is lined with numerous shops due to its historical development. It features a blend of Baroque ornamental style and traditional Minnan decorative patterns, including Greek pediments, Roman columns, and Chinese motifs like fish and bats symbolizing good fortune — creating a style unique to Daxi. Heping Old Street, developed later, has better-preserved historic buildings, and is bustling with unique shops and lively energy.

Located in Daxi, Taoyuan, the Old Baiji Tunnel was built in 1944 during the Japanese colonial period for transportation, air defense, and evacuation purposes. It also served as an important strategic site. After decades, the tunnel has been revitalized into a scenic walking trail suitable for families to leisurely stroll and explore its historical legacy.
