This spring, Tokyo saw the opening of many new facilities, starting with the highly anticipated Tokyo Skytree. At 634 meters tall, it’s the world’s tallest telecommunications tower, taking over the role previously held by Tokyo Tower. In addition, there are numerous mixed-use facilities nearby, such as shopping malls, aquariums, and hotels. The range of merchandise is endless, even including a limited-edition leopard-print cake featuring the famous Tokyo Banana, created exclusively for Tokyo Skytree.
DiverCity Tokyo Plaza is Tokyo’s largest entertainment and leisure complex, featuring 154 stores, including brands like H&M, FOREVER 21, American Eagle Outfitters, ZARA, and UNIQLO. It also houses the world’s only permanent Gundam exhibition hall, "Gundam Front Tokyo," which showcases various Gundam-related content from the past 30 years under the concepts of "1/1 scale" and "realism." The life-sized Gundam robot displayed outdoors is a must-visit photo spot for tourists, making it the newest popular landmark in Odaiba!
A brand-new commercial facility, "Shibuya Hikarie," has also opened at the east exit of Shibuya Station, breaking the traditional image of Shibuya as a youth hub. This nightlife destination is designed for office ladies, featuring a 16,000-square-meter shopping space called ShinQs with around 200 stores to explore. Starting July 18th, a Broadway theater will also open, generating much anticipation.
