As the summer travel season kicks in, knowing how to have fun while saving money is an art. The “Taiwan Trip” series, connecting tourist attractions with major public transport options, has launched 49 discounted packages this year, with the lowest discount being 33%. In addition to new routes such as the Royal North Coast Line and Salt Town Coastal Line, the package also includes seven regional passes like the “Northeast Coast & Yilan 3-Day Anytime Pass.” Furthermore, some routes are gradually installing smart bus systems, integrating GPS multilingual guided tour services, and developing diverse ticketing and booking options, allowing travelers to explore all of Taiwan without breaking the bank.

The Tourism Bureau noted that in 2011, the “Taiwan Trip” had 1.16 million riders, a 52% increase from the previous year. As of May this year, ridership reached 700,000, up 125% from the same period last year. The number of Taiwan Trip travel packages has increased from the original 16 to 49. For instance, the one-day Salt Town Coastal Line package includes a bus ticket, three attraction tickets, a small train ride, ice cream, and bike rental discounts. Originally priced at NT$946, it’s now only NT$330. The Royal North Coast Line’s “North Coast Budget Travel” offers a NT$199 package that includes a one-day bus pass, train tickets, and a free lunchbox from Liu’s Zongzi.
This year’s new regional packages include the “Mountain & Sea 2-Day Pass” in Taitung, covering both the East Coast Line and the Luyeh Valley Line, allowing unlimited rides within two days of purchase. Originally priced at NT$1,172, it’s now slashed by 67% to just NT$390. Other packages include the “Northeast Coast & Yilan 3-Day Anytime Pass,” “Lion Mountain Line – Lion Mountain & Nanzhuang Super Value Pass,” “Sun Moon Lake – Xitou Travel Pass,” “Sun Moon Lake – Alishan 3-Day Transport Pass,” and “Salt Town Coastal Line + Taijiang 99 Line 2-Day Transport Pass.” These offer cross-route and regional 2-3 day deep travel deals, all priced between NT$200–630.

Additionally, the Tourism Bureau has appointed singer Crowd Lu as the spokesperson for Taiwan Trip this year and planned a series of promotional events. For example, those who purchase a Taiwan Trip package can attend the “Taiwan Trip: Flash Your Ticket for Perks” fan meet-up on July 24 at Taipei’s Ximending Red House. A total of NT$500,000 worth of concert tickets will be given away. There’s also an online “Taiwan Trip Fan Rally” campaign: upload a photo with a Taiwan Trip bus, bus stop, or poster at the Taiwan Trip Facebook page to enter a lucky draw. The event is expected to launch in early July.
