The Miaoli Old Mountain Line summer tourist trains will run one round-trip per week on Fridays and Saturdays with the CK124 steam sightseeing train, and one round-trip per week on Sundays with the diesel-electric sightseeing train, each train offering 300 seats. Starting July 2, reservations will open for all dates after July 13, via telephone reservation and online booking through Taiwan Railways. The steam sightseeing train has a single fare of NT$299, with no standing tickets available. Passengers holding a valid ticket or stub can visit the Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum for free on the day of travel. The diesel-electric sightseeing train sells 300 seated and 100 standing tickets per trip, with full-fare tickets at NT$100 and discounted tickets at NT$50. Standing tickets or any remaining seats are available only on the day of travel at the Sanyi Station ticket window, with sales starting daily from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM. The Miaoli Old Mountain Line railway has been designated by the Council for Cultural Affairs as one of Taiwan’s potential UNESCO World Heritage sites. The summer tourist train departs from Sanyi Station at 10:30 AM, stops for about two hours at Shengxing Station — the highest point on the Taiwan Railways network — and passes through seven tunnels and three railway bridges along the way, offering views of historic sites such as the ancient tunnel group, Yutengping Viaduct, and the Liyutan Reservoir dam. The journey crosses the Da’an River and returns from Taian Station in Taichung, arriving back at Sanyi Station at 2:30 PM.

Additionally, from June 29 to July 1, free rides will be offered to participants in charity events, Indigenous groups, local elementary and middle school students, or organized tour groups staying in Miaoli.
