The Hualien County Indigenous United Harvest Festival is the highlight of the region’s annual cultural events. This year’s event will take place from July 6 to 8 in the large square directly opposite the Taiwan Indigenous Peoples Cultural Park, showcasing a rich array of tribal traditions including mythology, rituals, ceremonies, performances by well-known indigenous bands, legendary celebrations, the Worship of the War God MALATAW, a fixed-stage play featuring the Seediq legend of the Truku tribe, and an indigenous food street.

The 2012 Harvest Festival program includes the “Young & Vibrant Night” from 5:30 PM to 9:50 PM on July 6, the “Fun Show” from 10:30 AM to 6:30 PM on July 7, and the “Soul Night” from 5:30 PM to 9:50 PM on July 8. Activities will include rituals, blessings, welcome dances, indigenous sweethearts show, Amis tribal performances, Bunun Sun Shooting, as well as the Badagis Welcome Ceremony, legendary celebration, Puyuma Flower Crown Jump, indigenous food street, and handicraft exhibitions.
The “Harvest Festival” was originally the most important annual ritual of the Amis tribe. In recent years, it has gradually expanded to include more indigenous groups, growing into one of Taiwan’s major tourism festivals. This year’s theme combines legendary tales, mythology, seasonal customs, social traditions, life rituals, worship, and ceremonies, offering visitors a rich experience of indigenous culture.
