Chiayi’s Liujiao Township boasts Taiwan’s longest and most beautiful neem tree tunnel. Every March and April, when the neem flowers are in full bloom, the rows of tall, neatly interlaced tree-lined roads transform into a stunning neem flower tunnel. When the blossoms are at their peak, they emit a faint, delicate fragrance, creating an atmosphere like stepping into a fantastical fairy-tale scene.

The blooming of neem trees also brings the fragrance of spring. The branches are adorned with tiny flowers that, from a distance, appear as a light purple verging on snow-white—like remnants of late-winter snow, yet infused with the romance of purple and bursts of delicate fragrance, fresh and elegant.

As the light changes throughout the day, the neem tree tunnel takes on different moods—sometimes fresh, sometimes mysterious, and at times even a little melancholic, echoing the tree’s name “bitter practice” (Neem) as if reflecting a bittersweet love. However, the neem tree is a common and excellent roadside tree species, growing quickly, providing windbreak and drought resistance, while the tunnel offers shade and a gentle breeze.
