The annual “Sun Moon Lake International Fireworks & Music Carnival” series will run from October 10 to November 10, during National Day and five consecutive weekends, hosting a total of five major fireworks concerts and four small-scale concerts. The special National Day event on October 10 will include a Mountain Challenge race in the morning for marathon runners from all over, an afternoon nature hike up Shuishe Dashan for participating visitors, and an evening concert featuring performances by A-Lin, Wei Bird, Yoga Lin, and the band Wanfu, accompanied by a spectacular fireworks display—offering a full day of diverse and enchanting experiences around Sun Moon Lake. All carnival concerts are free to attend, and registration for the Shuishe Dashan hiking activity is expected to open in mid-August.

This year’s Fireworks Music Carnival will officially kick off on October 13 at Yida Shao Wharf. The opening performance will be led by guest conductor Douglas Bostock with the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra Wind Ensemble, presenting a program themed “Prayer of the Firmament,” featuring selected wind works from the UK, Japan, and the US. Among them, “Prayer of the Firmament” composed by Koji Makaino was written after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake in Japan, and this performance marks its Taiwan premiere. On October 20, the “Taiwan Mobile Fireworks Concert: Les Misérables – Rising from Adversity” will be held at the Shuishe Zhongxing Parking Lot, conducted by Jiang Jingbo with the L’Heure Exquise Orchestra, performing popular songs from the beloved musical “Les Misérables” such as “One Day More” and “On My Own,” as well as classic symphonic works by Dvořák, Tchaikovsky, and Stravinsky, allowing visitors to enjoy the timeless melodies amidst the lake views and dazzling fireworks.
On October 26, the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra and the NTSO Festival Chorus, aligned with the 2012/2013 NTSO New Season theme “Love and Death,” will present “The Blessed Damozel” by the lakeside of Sun Moon Lake. On November 3, the “Lakeside Pilgrimage – Dual Piano Concert: Autumn Waters Merge with the Vast Sky” at Xiangshan Visitor Center will combine landscape architecture with piano duets and light projections, offering attendees a unique and memorable night by the lake. Throughout the carnival, various side events will also take place around Sun Moon Lake, including a group wedding in Nantou County on October 12, the Sun Moon Lake Black Tea Culture Festival – Sun Moon Black Tea Gathering on October 13, and the “Craft Tea Aroma” tea party as part of the Love Dye Craft – 2012 Taiwan Craft Festival on November 4.

Travelers wishing to join the Sun Moon Lake Music Carnival can also plan their trip using the “Sun Moon Lake Good Travel Pass,” which offers seven different package combinations, including cable car and boat tickets, allowing exploration from Sun Moon Lake to Checheng, Shuili, and Jiji, as well as connections to famous attractions like Alishan and Xitou.
