From now until January 31, 2013, Cathay Pacific is launching a Special Economy Class promotion. Passengers who purchase tickets in Special Economy Class from Taiwan to Europe, Australia, North America, India, the Middle East, and Johannesburg will receive a complimentary upgrade to Business Class for their Taiwan–Hong Kong flight segments on both outbound and inbound journeys, whether flying with Cathay Pacific or Dragonair.

Currently, Cathay Pacific and Dragonair operate over 190 weekly flights between Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Hong Kong. During the promotion period, passengers traveling in Cathay Pacific Special Economy Class can not only enjoy complimentary Business Class seating and meal services for the Taiwan–Hong Kong segment, but also earn 125% of the actual flight miles in Asia Miles for that segment.
Cathay Pacific’s new Special Economy Class will be gradually introduced on Boeing 777-300ER, Boeing 747-400, selected Airbus A330-300, and Airbus A340-300 aircraft. By the end of January 2013, the Special Economy Class will be available on 25 destinations within Cathay Pacific’s medium- and long-haul network. The Special Economy Class offers 26 to 34 seats, with a seat pitch of approximately 96.5 cm — 15 cm more than in Economy Class. The seats are wider, and the backrest can recline up to 20 cm further. Additionally, the Special Economy Class is equipped with a large main table, a cocktail table, footrests, a 10.6-inch personal TV screen, power outlets, multi-port connectors, and extra storage space.
