The Taipei Percussion Group will present their 2012 public performance “Guitar Vibes. Mad Percussion” at 2:30 PM on November 11 at Zhongzheng Hall in Miaoli County. For this event, the Taipei Percussion Group not only takes inspiration from the guitar but also attempts to blend classical guitar, two electric bass guitars, and percussion instruments in their performance to showcase the diverse styles and playing techniques of the guitar.andwill feature international classical guitar competition champions Liu Shix and Su Mengfeng, who will perform a quartet specially commissioned by the group from composer Huang Wan-zhen, created for percussionists and guitarists.

This time, the commissioned work “Otherworld — Memories of a Bromo Volcano Journey,” a quartet for two percussionists and two guitarists composed by Huang Wan-zhen, recounts memories of an unforgettable trip — the journey to the Bromo Volcano. The piece, based on the characteristics of percussion instruments and compositional techniques, depicts the vast and mysterious natural landscapes such as “Starry Sky. Desert” and “Sunrise. Sea of Clouds.”with vivid and lively colorful rhythms.
Additionally, regarding minimalist master Steve Reich’s piece “Electric Counterpoint,” the group experiments with combining classical guitar, two electric bass guitars, and percussion instruments. By contrasting percussive and plucked elements, they seek a transcendent and meditative sense of mystery within extreme music. Through collaboration with the guitar, they also expand the developmental possibilities of percussion performance, creating boundless sonic experiences.
