As December arrives with its strong Christmas atmosphere, various festive celebrations are being rolled out across the country. To celebrate Christmas, New Taipei City will host the 2012 New Taipei City Christmas Town event from December 1 to January 6, 2013. In addition to extending the decoration area from last year’s Xinzhuang Special Zone to the Ten Thousand Pings Park, this year’s Christmas tree will especially feature an LED full-color screen, creating a 35-meter-tall, the tallest and only LED Christmas tree in the nation this year. Each light can display 256 different colors, and through variations in brightness, along with animations showing snowflakes, lasers, flowing animations, and radiating beams, it can transform into the shapes of hundreds of Christmas trees. The tree will be lit up on December 1.

This year’s series of events for the New Taipei City Christmas Town will kick off on December 1 with the Family Fun Carnival at Civic Square, featuring parent-child games, Christmas impersonation shows, international dances, and a baby creative Christmas costume show, among others. The popular “Apple Sister” will also be there to dance and take photos with children. To let newborns experience their first Christmas, the New Taipei City Government has prepared limited-edition handmade bibs to give to babies under 18 months who visit the carnival on December 1 and 2. Just take a photo with your family at the photo booth using the special Christmas frame, and the first 102 families will receive a handmade bib. This year’s Civic Square also features a variety of amusement facilities. In addition to the nation’s tallest dazzling Christmas tree, there will be a carousel and a space shuttle, and the square’s original large pillars have been transformed into the chimney of a gingerbread house. Around the square, snow houses, reindeer made of driftwood, and a small mountain of sparkling Christmas gifts will also be set up.
Additionally, on December 8 and 9, concerts themed around indigenous culture—“Original Band Heroes: Who Will Rise to the Challenge?” and “Joyful Christmas: Indigenous Dreams”—will feature melodious indigenous singing to tell historical stories. On December 15 and 16, the New Taipei City Symphony Orchestra, directed by Liao Jiahong and accompanied by the “Water Shadow Dance Troupe,” will present newly adapted and created pieces such as “Christmas Broadway” and “Christmas Waltz.” The highlight of the Christmas month will come on the afternoon of December 23 with the street parade and the Christmas concert held at Civic Square that evening. On the night of December 24, the “Silent Night Charity Gala” will spread joy and peace throughout the entire Christmas Town.
