Each year when December arrives, the usually quiet Wanjin Village comes alive because the second Sunday of the month is the Feast of the Patroness of Wanjin Basilica. With Christmas being an important festival in the Catholic Church, almost every household adorns their homes with Christmas lights and nativity scenes, creating the most captivating atmosphere of the Wanjin Christmas season. Currently, Christmas lights and decorations in Wanjin Village households and surrounding roads have been gradually installed, with test lightings recently underway. When night falls, little angels and reindeer seem to race across the sky, and the Wanjin Christmas Season is set to kick off with an official lighting ceremony on December 1st.

The Pingtung County Government Tourism and Communications Department stated that last year many people specifically visited Wanjin to enjoy the night scenery. This year, the county government commissioned the Wanjin Community Development Association to expand the scope of the Christmas light displays. In addition to areas around Wanjin Basilica and main streets within the village, the decorations have also been extended to Chishan Village, Wugou Village, and the Ulaljuc Tribe in Taiwu Township. The tree-lined boulevard along the section from the Ulaljuc Tribe to the Wanjin military camp, approximately 500–600 meters long, is now adorned with decorative lights in the shapes of little angels, reindeer, doves, and bells. At night, these lights add a touch of romance to the boulevard, delighting many passersby, and this stretch is expected to become a popular spot during this year’s Wanjin Christmas Season.

In addition, the village also features a blue tunnel of lights and a sea of angelic lights on both sides of the road in front of the basilica for prayers. The number of Christmas lights this year exceeds previous years. A nearly two-story-tall Christmas tree light installation has also been set up in the temporary parking lot near the entrance to Wanjin Village on Provincial Highway 100, further enhancing the festive atmosphere.
