Tainan is the birthplace of Taiwanese history, preserving the culinary characteristics of local and foreign cultures over the past four hundred years, which have also contributed to the uniqueness of Tainan’s street food. The Tainan Tourism Bureau will launch the “2012 Tainan Food Festival” series of events starting December 1. Lasting for a month, the Tainan Food Festival will divide 338 food establishments across Greater Tainan into “Eight Gourmet Zones,” and host the “Sweet Check-in Draw for Prizes” event. By collecting 10 stamps from dining at the “Eight Gourmet Zones,” you’ll have the chance to take home a variety of great prizes worth nearly NT$300,000 in total. There’s also the highly anticipated “Gourmet Check-in Marathon,” where the top three participants with the most stamps can win cash prizes—the first-place winner will receive NT$10,000.

This year’s series of events also include the “Sweet City”? Lively Leisure and Food Tour Activity” and the “Taste of Tainan Food Essay Competition.” Participants in the leisure and food tour will be invited to embark on either a one-day or two-day Tainan mini-travel route, and based on must-eat foods during breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack time, and late-night meals, they’ll be introduced to food establishments in the “Eight Gourmet Zones,” even including hidden gem spots or stores on expert recommendation lists. This allows more people to experience this city full of long history and known as a “gourmet museum” through photos and text. The “Sweet City”? Lively Leisure and Food Tour Activity” will award a total prize of NT$7,000, selecting three top entries. Meanwhile, the “Taste of Tainan Food Essay Competition” will also select three winning works, with a total prize of NT$12,000 awarded.

In addition, the “2012 Tainan Food Festival” check-in booklet can be picked up at the City Government Citizen Service Center, district offices, as well as at railway station tourist service centers in Tainan and other counties and cities. Additionally, you can search online for “Tainan Tourism” to link to the official website and directly download and print the booklet. The event also incorporates the “2012 Tainan Food Festival” APP service for travelers to download.
