Taking a Selfie on the Death Railway Bridge, Tourist Gets Hit by Train and Fractures Ribs

"Selfies" have almost become a must-do activity for travelers everywhere, but safety should never be overlooked while taking them. Recently, a Japanese tourist was taking a selfie on the Death Railway Bridge when he failed to notice an approaching train, was knocked down, and fell off the bridge, sustaining head injuries and multiple fractured ribs.

According to Thai media outlet Bangkok Post, 52-year-old Haruhisa Saito was leading his company employees on a local tour on the morning of May 21. While taking photos alone on the Death Railway Bridge, he did not notice that Train No. 257 was approaching. Although the train had sounded its warning, Saito failed to react in time and was struck, causing him to fall about five meters off the bridge.

The report stated that approximately a thousand Thai and international tourists witnessed the incident, and local police promptly transported Haruhisa Saito to a nearby hospital for treatment.
