The Lunar New Year is the most important festival for Chinese people. With one month to go before Spring Festival, the “Come to Taipei for a Great New Year 2013” series of events will be launched by eight business districts including Dihua Street, Ningxia Night Market, Houbi Station Area, Huayin Street, Taipei Underground Mall, Rongbin Business District, Yuanling Street, North Gate Camera Street, and Nanchang Furniture Street. These areas will host Lunar New Year markets or special holiday sales. Following Nanchang Furniture Street’s launch of discounts of up to 58% off and a free “Good Luck Wealth Lamp” with purchases over NT$10,000, North Gate Camera Street has specially organized a “Camera Street 2013 Year-End Party” campaign from now until February 3 to cater to year-end gift-giving and office parties.

Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-pin said that the “Come to Taipei for a Great New Year 2013” series will feature nine business districts offering special holiday sales. Whether it's essential festive foods or new clothes and shoes for the New Year, all can be found in the city’s business districts. The city government will announce detailed schedules and activities for each district on January 23. North Gate Camera Street is the first to launch this series. It is Taiwan’s only commercial district dedicated to photography, home to the densest cluster of camera shops with a wide selection of camera types and models. To meet the demand for year-end gifts and office parties, 36 shops in the district have jointly launched the “Camera Street 2013 Year-End Party.” The public is welcome to visit North Gate Camera Street.

Yang Chun, chairman of the Taipei North Gate Camera Business District Development Association, said that during the event, visitors can play pinball at the camera street arcade and receive a lollipop based on their score, with high-scorers getting a free raffle ticket for large-prize draws. Customers who spend NT$5,000 or more at the event site can also get a raffle ticket. Prizes include iPad minis and various brand-name point-and-shoot cameras, among others. In addition, the event features a “Fan Popularity Bonus Draw.” From now until February 3, visitors who like the Camera Street fan page, take photos, and check in online can get a raffle ticket. For every additional 1,000 fans, an extra point-and-shoot camera will be added as a prize. On February 2 and 3, shops will also present a “Camera Brand Avenue,” where major brands such as Canon, Nikon, and Sony will offer exclusive deals.
