Paper, which is readily available and typically used for writing and drawing, can also become a creative element in various forms such as decorations, lanterns, furniture, and even architecture. The Yingge Ceramics Museum is hosting the “Paper Fun – Xu Qiwen’s Paper Model Exhibition” at the small stage of its Life is Beautiful Cultural Goods Concept Store from now until February 7th. The exhibition showcases paper-crafted creations, including a 175-centimeter-tall cartoon character and an Invincible Iron Giant helmet, as well as the creator Xu Qiwen’s favorite hyper-realistic paper airplane series. The exhibition has already attracted many visitors who stop to admire and take photos.

Xu Qiwen, from Taoyuan, began crafting paper models as a child when he couldn’t afford an expensive Invincible Iron Giant toy. Since then, he fell in love with paper art. Originally working in the IT industry, he officially established “Paper Fun” in 2004 and has since focused on designing various paper models. Xu Qiwen explained that the design process begins with conceptualizing a theme, constructing the overall piece using 3D drawing software, printing it out, and finally using different types of paper to convey the texture of the work.
All the works exhibited are made from various types of paper, including family-friendly assemble-your-own models such as the “Steam Locomotive,” “Deity Figurine – Mazu,” “Ceramics Museum 3D Paper Cup,” and “Yingge Snake Kiln 3D Paper Model.” Additionally, he specially spent one month creating a 175-centimeter cartoon figure, a 60-centimeter-tall giant mug, and an Invincible Iron Giant helmet to be displayed at the venue. The exhibit also features his favorite hyper-realistic paper airplane series, such as F-16 fighter jets, Boeing 747s, and helicopters. All of the creations are truly astonishing.
The “Paper Fun – Xu Qiwen’s Paper Model Exhibition” not only showcases nearly ten years of Xu Qiwen’s carefully selected works but also offers parent-child interactive DIY paper craft experiences every Saturday and Sunday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM during the exhibition period.
