Airbnb Taiwan Community Launched: Easily Find Unique Stays Around the World

As the trend of adventurous travel gains popularity, hotel accommodations can no longer satisfy travelers’ desire to explore the world, and unique stays such as castles, treehouses, and cave dwellings have become hidden gems in destinations worldwide. In response, Airbnb, which provides global booking services for distinctive accommodations, has not only established a community in Taiwan to help local travelers more easily access unique stays around the world, but also introduces Taiwan’s unique homestays and other types of lodging to international visitors. Whether it’s a simple room for $10 USD (about NT$300) per night, a houseboat, or a luxury castle abroad, or unique homestays in Taiwan, simply enter your destination, check-in date, and number of guests on the website to browse them all at once.

Many backpackers and couch surfers are shifting their accommodation choices from conventional hotels to locally-owned homes with unique styles—not only are they more affordable, but they also offer an immersive local experience and opportunities to meet new people. This trend is taking locals abroad and attracting many foreign travelers to visit Taiwan. According to Airbnb statistics, the proportion of Taiwanese users booking overseas stays through the platform grew by 283% in 2012, with New York, Paris, Hong Kong, London, and Boston being the most popular destinations. Meanwhile, visitors from 47 different countries and regions booked accommodations in Taiwan via the site, with the U.S., Singapore, Hong Kong, China, and Canada being the top sources. In 2012, the total number of nights booked by Airbnb users in Taiwan increased by 940%.
