Operated and built by the National Museum of Natural Science, the "Chelungpu Fault Preservation Park" in Zhushan Township, Nantou County, has officially opened yesterday with a mission to preserve precious geological assets and promote geological science education. Its main exhibition facilities include the "Geological Science Hall" and the "Fault Trench Preservation Hall." In the trench preservation hall, visitors can witness world-class fault landscapes firsthand. Standing before the fault, one can truly feel the immense power of nature and the insignificance of humanity. The Chelungpu Fault Preservation Park is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, closed every Monday and on Chinese New Year’s Eve. If Monday is a national holiday or make-up holiday, it remains open. Admission is free on the first day of the Lunar New Year. From now until April 30 during the trial operation period, entry is free for all visitors.

The first-floor permanent exhibition area of the Geological Science Hall includes display units on fault rubbings, geological science, geological structures, plate movements, mountain-building processes, a terrain theater, the Chelungpu Fault, and records of trench excavation. Aside from precious Psittacosaurus fossils and various interactive teaching devices, cutting-edge 3D autostereoscopic technology is also used to showcase the formation process of Taiwan Island. The special exhibition on the second floor currently features “Aerial Tour of Zhushan,” offering a bird's-eye view of Zhushan attractions and the landscape changes along the Chelungpu Fault before and after the 921 Earthquake. In addition, the park’s outdoor space is planted with various bamboo species to highlight the characteristics of Zhushan, as well as diverse and multi-layered greenery to create a vibrant ecological educational environment.
Located behind the "Geological Science Hall," the "Fault Trench Preservation Hall" is a uniquely designed hemispherical building constructed atop the excavated fault trench. Its primary function is to preserve and showcase this valuable Chelungpu Fault site. It complements the rectangular "Geological Science Hall," clearly reflecting the design concept inspired by the ancient belief in the "round sky and square earth."

Additionally, renowned local artist You Wenfu has created a public art piece titled “Vibrant Seedlings” specifically for the newly completed "Chelungpu Fault Preservation Park." The unveiling event is scheduled for February 2 at 1:30 PM. On the same day, the “Revival of the Fertile Soil – Earth Art Workshop” will also be held, with free registration available for participants to experience and join art guided tours.
