6 Major Airlines Flying to Tokyo with Up to ¥5,000 Savings — Travel to Japan Before Summer Break Is Super Affordable

The period between winter and spring vacations and the peak summer season — May and June — is the off-peak time for overseas travel, prompting many airlines and travel agencies to roll out promotional deals to boost bookings. For popular destinations like Japan, which have ample flight availability and are favored by travelers, recent ticket prices are ¥2,000–¥5,000 cheaper than during peak season, making it a great opportunity to snag a bargain.

In fact, during the off-peak season, not only do airlines offer more promotions and hotels are easier to book, but customs clearance is also typically faster. Besides budget airlines, traditional carriers also provide discounted fares. Stable flight schedules and comprehensive services are especially appealing to those unfamiliar with low-cost carriers. Additionally, airlines such as Japan Airlines and ANA are offering domestic connecting flight deals to help travelers explore various parts of Japan.

China Airlines
In addition to offering special fares at travel expos, China Airlines has recently introduced round-trip tickets to Okinawa starting from ¥9,788 and to Tokyo from ¥13,888, both inclusive of taxes and fees. Starting May 25, the airline will also begin selling fare options that “exclude checked baggage,” allowing passengers to purchase luggage according to their individual needs. The lowest price for a round-trip Tokyo ticket starts from ¥5,100.

EVA Air
Aside from running a prize giveaway campaign on its official Facebook page, EVA Air also offered a 5% discount on all routes during the travel expo. It introduced early-bird discounted fares for Hokkaido starting from ¥12,480 during the off-peak season. For those unable to book before summer, these fares are also valid for the end of this year and the first half of 2017.

Japan Airlines
Japan Airlines is currently offering promotional fares for Tokyo starting from ¥9,900, with no additional fuel surcharges — a ¥3,500 saving compared to the summer price of ¥13,400. Passengers can also pre-purchase domestic connecting flights for an additional ¥2,000 one-way, or use the JAL Japan Explorer Pass to add domestic segments. Economy class includes two free checked bags weighing up to 23 kg each, making it ideal for shoppers. (End)

ANA
ANA also does not charge fuel surcharges. Coupled with its off-peak promotions, travelers can save approximately ¥2,500. For the popular Matsuyama–Haneda route, round-trip tickets start from ¥8,500. Travelers wishing to reach more remote areas can connect through Fukuoka, Osaka, or Nagoya without extra fees, while other destinations require an additional ¥2,000 one-way. For May and June, Cathay Pacific is offering promotional fares for Tokyo and Osaka ranging from ¥7,200 to ¥7,800, which is ¥4,000–¥5,000 cheaper than peak season. For those who plan ahead, early-bird fares for Tokyo and Osaka are available for ¥7,400–¥8,500, and for Nagoya from ¥10,500, for summer travel. (End)

TransAsia Airways
Before the end of May, TransAsia is running a 65th-anniversary lucky draw where ticket purchases could win round-trip flights or gifts to any destination.
