Beloved around the world, this roughly six-story-tall giant yellow rubber duck designed by Dutch conceptual artist Florentijn Hofman has traveled to 10 countries and 12 cities including the Netherlands, France, Brazil, Australia, and Osaka. In May this year, it will dock in Victoria Harbour at Hong Kong Harbour City, kicking off a month-long visit to Hong Kong from May 2 to June 9. Alongside the 16-meter-tall duck itself, there will also be a photo exhibition of rubber ducks at “Harbour City Gallery” from May 1 to May 26.

This super-sized yellow duck wasn’t enlarged by Doraemon’s Growth Ray—it’s part of the “Rubber Duck Project” initiated by Dutch designer Florentijn Hofman, aiming to bring warmth and smiles to people. This friendly and healing giant duck transcends borders, carries no political message, and shows no racial bias. It simply hopes to promote world peace. When you see the yellow duck floating in the harbor, it encourages you to relax, slow down, and forget all your worries.

Born in 1977, Dutch conceptual artist Florentijn Hofman often uses various giant animals as themes, paired with cartoonish styles and contemporary inflatable art techniques to convey positive messages about the environment, love, and peace. Hofman’s works have been exhibited globally, leaving his mark across Europe, Brazil, Japan, New Zealand, and even Africa. Aside from the giant yellow duck, other thought-provoking pieces include “Slow Slugs,” made from 40,000 plastic bags, and “Macaco Gordo,” created using 10,000 colorful flip-flops in collaboration with local students.
