The "Tainan May Jam," founded by Axel (Sun Heping), a German son-in-law of Tainan who gathered foreign friends, has been highly acclaimed since its inception in 2000. This year, through the arrangement of the Tainan City Government Tourism Bureau, it is being held for the first time at Hutoupi Scenic Area. The "Tainan May Jam" is usually held on the first weekend of May and is a major independent music event in the Tainan area. This year, it is specially scheduled for May 4–5 at Hutoupi, with the theme "LOVE OF MUSIC," aiming to convey messages of love and peace through music.

The founder of the Tainan May Jam—German Axel (Sun Heping)—traveled alone to India 20 years ago for spiritual practice, where he met a Taiwanese woman. They fell in love and eventually settled in Tainan. Axel, who was already engaged in music and art creation, found inspiration and themes for his work in the ancient capital of Tainan and formed a local band with residents—Charlie Swiggs. Noticing the lack of performance venues for independent bands in Tainan, in 2000 he co-founded the first Tainan May Jam (Tainan May Jam) with Frenchman Cedric, providing a stage for independent bands to perform and allowing music lovers to get involved.
This year's "Tainan May Jam" will feature over 35 independent bands of various styles, including locals from Tainan and foreigners from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and more. With diverse musical genres, the event promises to spark unique musical moments. There will also be yoga sessions and instrument experience activities, giving audiences a rich taste of international culture.
The event will begin with warm-up performances on the evening of May 3, which are free and open to the public. Performances on May 4–5 offer a one-day ticket for NT$300 and a two-day ticket for NT$550 (both include entry to Hutoupi Reservoir). To encourage family participation, those under 16 can attend the music festival for free upon presenting ID (though the Hutoupi entrance fee still applies).
