“Creamy the Cat” bids farewell to Tsim Sha Tsui tonight — fans, meet him on Facebook at 10:30 PM

The beloved Hong Kong Tsim Sha Tsui “Creamy the Cat,” who hangs out at a newsstand, will see the stall close its doors for business on the evening of the 25th. At lunchtime, dozens of fans gathered around the stand to say goodbye to Creamy. It’s reported that at 10:30 PM, the Facebook fan page will livestream the event so fans can accompany him on his journey home.

Creamy has been stationed at the newsstand for 10 years, and almost every office worker nearby knows him. He has also attracted tourists who come to see him, essentially becoming a living landmark of Tsim Sha Tsui. He became famous not by trying too hard, and eventually launched a Facebook fan page in response to public demand, earning coverage from media outlets around the world. However, in early April this year, the owner posted on the fan page saying that due to reduced foot traffic and the financial burden of rent and salaries, despite many efforts, the newsstand could no longer continue operating and had decided to shut down. Soon, Creamy will be leaving Tsim Sha Tsui.

The newsstand will close for business at 11 PM tonight. At lunchtime, dozens of fans surrounded the stand to bid farewell to Creamy, while the usually composed feline appeared as laid-back as ever. It’s reported that at 10:30 PM, the fan page will livestream the event so fans can accompany him on his journey home.

The fan page noted that after Creamy leaves Tsim Sha Tsui, he will officially begin his “long vacation” and “life of domestic confinement.” He won’t be able to sleep during office hours and get photographed by the public anymore, nor lounge on books to sunbathe. Instead, he’ll have to stay indoors and “bulk up in captivity.”

The owner told the Sun newspaper that at 11 PM, a special van dubbed the “Creamy Van” will pick up Creamy and his partner to take them home. Afterward, he will continue to share updates about Creamy, and may even livestream interactions between Creamy and children. If the public wants to see Creamy again, the earliest opportunity will be the July book fair, for which they are currently applying to let Creamy attend the autograph session.
