Old streets, local cuisine, and beach music festivals. Want to experience a different side of Tainan this summer? Plan a two-day, one-night trip on July 12th and 13th. On top of strolling through Anping Old Street and sampling the local delicacies of the ancient city, from 16:00 onwards, you can also dance and cheer to the music at the Masago Beach Recreation Area, feeling the rock energy of the 2013 Tainan Masago Music Festival alongside artists like Penny Tai, Ding Dang, and Chang Chen-yue.

This year’s Masago Music Festival features a stellar lineup, including Golden Melody Award winner Penny Tai, rock king Chang Chen-yue, queen of love ballads Ding Dang, leading rock band Quartet, as well as rising acts — Power Station, Universe, and Bear Baby — totaling 10 outstanding artists and bands performing in relay. At the end of the two-day event, there will also be a “Summer DJ Dance Night,” featuring Taiwan’s renowned club 18TC’s top DJ spinning live. Hot girls will lead the crowd in an all-night party, with 100 limited-edition masks available for participants to enjoy a mysterious night out.

This year’s event not only breaks the traditional image of Tainan as an ancient capital through music but also focuses on themes of youthful folk songs and passionate rock. With two days of theme-based musical performances, it fully showcases the rich and diverse musical strength of the ancient city. Coupled with food, accommodation, and other fun activities, it allows you to immerse yourself in the best of Tainan’s eats, entertainment, and sights. The two-day event features nearly 48 food stalls, where attendees can sample authentic Tainan snacks and popular local delicacies.
Anping Old Street is centered around Yanping Street, known as “Taiwan’s First Street.” The street is lined with shops selling preserved fruits and children’s toys, while historic buildings like He Chuan Ancestral House and Yong Taixing Preserved Fruit Shop retain their traditional appearance. In addition, the Tainan City Government Tourism Bureau has collaborated with Chan Star Travel, Sanfu Travel, and Wufu Travel to launch one-day and two-day Tainan Masago Music Festival package tours. These tours not only include visits to Anping Old Street and Nankunshen Daitian Temple to learn about Tainan’s historical legacy as an ancient capital, but also take you to places like Jingzijiao Tile-Pan Salt Fields to explore Tainan’s unique ecological landscapes. You’ll get to experience the tropical seaside vibes reminiscent of foreign coastlines in southern Taiwan, and together feel the hottest music festival in southern Taiwan. Event update: The “2013 Tainan Masago Music Festival” originally scheduled for July 12th and 13th at Masago Beach Recreation Area in Tainan’s Jianguo District has been postponed due to the impact of Typhoon Soulik.
