Gongliao and Wanggong Music Festivals to Kick Off This Weekend, Mashagou Music Festival Starts August 16

Don’t lose heart just yet — both the Gongliao Ocean Music Festival and the Wanggong Fishing Fire Festival will take place this weekend, while the Mashagou Music Festival in southern Taiwan’s Tainan will kick off on August 16. New Taipei City’s Gongliao International Marine Music Festival will return from July 19 to 22. On July 19, “Come On, My Sea Festival!” will feature bands from Singapore such as Supergroove, Malaysia’s Haoto, and Korea’s Biuret... among others, and the day’s closing act will be the Ocean Festival senior alumnus Sodagreen, who will move fans with their tender love songs. July 20 is the highlight of the Gongliao Ocean Music Festival every year — the “Ocean Independent Music Awards.” In addition to last year’s champion band, Freeway, performing as the finale, there will also be 10 shortlisted groups performing on stage that day, giving their all to compete for this year’s Ocean Flag. July 21’s “Taiwan Homegrown Rock” will feature performances by well-known bands such as Chairman. July 22’s “Rock On” will gather multiple artists and bands including this year’s Golden Melody Award-nominated singer-songwriter Bai An, the ethereal-voiced Jia Jia, Hong Kong’s Denise Ho, and Japan’s SANSANAR.

The Changhua County “Wanggong Fishing Fire Festival” will be held on July 20 and 21 at Wanggong Fishing Port in Fangyuan Township. This year’s event will be hosted by A-Cheng and Wang Tong, with a lineup that includes artists and groups such as Yoga Lin, Angus Fang, Chen Lei, Li Weifeng, Universe People, and North Seven. The program also features themed fireworks shows — “Blessed by Matsu for Prosperity” on July 20 and “Golden Sunset and Bountiful Harvest” on July 21. In addition, during the event, 4,000 servings of chicken dishes, along with 8,000 tea eggs and 8,000 boiled eggs, will be given out for free at Fuhai Temple, with limited-edition Wanggong oyster fritters and FB check-in eco-fan giveaways also available.

The Tainan Mashagou Music Festival has been postponed to August 16 and 17, and its lineup includes electronic music goddess Jolin Tsai, winner of Golden Melody Awards, as the closing act. In addition, there will be performances by rock king Jay Chou, hard rock band Quartet, and 10 other outstanding artists, including newcomer singer-songwriter Fish Leong and rising rock band Hush!, bringing the public the most authentic summer ocean music festival experience!
